Travel Information for the Esoteric Quest to Iceland
Arrival in Iceland:
All participants will be flying into Reykjavik’s Keflavik International Airport (KEF). A number of carriers serve Iceland, including Icelandair and WOW air (a discount airline flying out of Boston and Washington, DC). Most cross-Atlantic flights will arrive in the early morning hours.
Participants joining us for our Pre-Conference Day on the Reykjanes Peninsula will need to arrive in Reykjavik no later than 7am on Tuesday the 23rd of August. A coach will be available to transfer you to the Geo Hotel in nearby Grindavik (exact details of meeting time and place will be emailed or sent to you closer to conference time in your Welcome Packet). Open Center staff will be present at the Geo Hotel to greet and assist you.
You’ll be able to drop your bags off and have breakfast at the hotel before we make our way to the Blue Lagoon around 10am. We’ll have lunch together, and then return to our hotel to rest before our late afternoon activities.
Participants arriving from the UK who may be on flights arriving at 8:30am will be met by a 9am coach, which will make its way directly to the Blue Lagoon.
Anyone opting to arrive on the 22nd of August will be met at 9:30am by an Open Center van which will transfer you to the Geo Hotel in Grindavik (exact details of meeting time and place will be emailed or sent to you closer to conference time in your Welcome Packet). Participants arriving at any other time on the 22nd will make their own way to the Geo Hotel in Grindavik.
There is a taxi stand just outside the Arrivals Terminal at Keflavik, or you may reserve a car by phoning or emailing any of the car services included on the Keflavik website. The 20 km ride costs approximately $135 USD for 1-4 passengers.
Main Conference Attendees:
Those of us whose travels begin with our Main Conference will need to arrive in Reykjavik no later than 9am on Wednesday the 24th of August. A coach will be available for a 9:30am pick up that will take us to Selfoss, where all participants will spend the first night of our main conference.
Exact details of meeting place will be emailed or sent to you closer to conference time in your Welcome Packet.
Early morning arrivals will have time for a quick breakfast at the airport; those of us arriving closer to 9am will be able to eat at our next destination (approximately 11:30am).
En route to Selfoss, we’ll stop at a small thermal pool (which has a lovely cafe) and then have lunch before check-in at our hotel. Participants will have the opportunity to rest at the hotel or join us for an afternoon visit to the Icelandic Wonders museum in Stokkseyri (a 15-minute drive from Selfoss) before we drive to our opening night reception.
Returning Home or Continuing On:
Our Main Conference will conclude at lunch on Monday the 29th of August.
Participants returning home at this point will travel by coach into Reykjavik where they will need to book accommodations for the night (for assistance, you are welcome to contact our on-site travel agent, Unnur Silfá Eyfells, at firstname.lastname@example.org). Main Conference participants will book their returning flights for anytime on Tuesday, the 30th of August, and will be able to use Reykjavik’s convenient public transport to Keflavik Airport (click HERE for details; approximate cost is $25 USD).
Coaches will meet those of us journeying on to either of our Post-Conference trips.

Participants may book their returning flights for anytime on Thursday, the 1st of September, and will be able to use Reykjavik’s convenient public transport to Keflavik Airport (click HERE for details; approximate cost is $25 USD).
